YOU on a DIET - Book Review

November 24th 2007 21:32
YOU on a DIET by Michael F. Roizen, M.D. and Mehmet C. Oz, M.D, is by far the best diet book I've ever read.

It is different from most diet books or plans because it explains WHY you need to have a food plan and WHY most diets fail. It explains all the science involved, but not in a scientific way. The chapter titles and subtitles give a pretty good idea of what all is included in the book:

Part 1: What a Waist!

Introduction: YOU: On a Diet - Work Smarter, Not Harder

The Ideal Body - What Your Body Is Supposed to Look Like

Part 2: The Biology of Fat

Can't Get No Satisfaction - The Science of Appetite

Eater's Digest - How Food Travels through Your Body

Gut Check - The Dangerous Battles of Inflammation In Your Belly

Taking a Fat Chance - How Fat Ruins Your Health

Metabolic Motors - Your Body's Hormonal Fat Burners

Make the Move - How You Can Burn Fat Faster

Part 3: The Science of the Mind

The Chemistry of Emotions - The Connections between Feelings and Food

Shame on Who? - The Psychology of the Failed Diet

Part 4: The YOU Diet and Activity Plan

Make a YOU-Turn - How to Change What You Thought You Knew about Dieting - and Change Your Life for Good

The YOU Activity Plan - Physical Strategies for Waist Management

The YOU Diet - The Waist-Management Eating Plan

Suggested retail price is $25.00, which is WELL WORTH IT! I paid $14.97 at Wal-Mart. Seriously, if you're like me, you've probably bought several diet books, and magazines dedicated to dieting. I've even sat at the table, eating junk food, while reading them. THIS book, though, has changed my life. I'm not going to claim that I've lost a ton, or that I've followed the suggestions religiously. I have learned a lot about WHY I'm overweight, and have learned a lot about HOW to get it under control. I've lost a little, but, like I said, I haven't followed the book's suggestions religiously. I've made a few changes, and am slowly making more. The more I change about my eating habits and activities, the more I lose. I'd rather lose it slowly, and keep it off, than lose it all at once and gain back more.

If you're in need of a good, healthy PLAN for losing weight, check out this book. Even if you don't apply everything it suggests, I promise you'll learn more than you already know about dieting.
