Exercise Ball

March 25th 2009 04:35
In my continuous quest for exercises I am able to do, I finally decided to try an exercise ball. I must say, this was a good decision! The ball makes many exercises I couldn't do before possible - and much lower impact.

If you decide to get a ball, be sure to check the size - mine is just a bit too big for me. It was supposed to be for people 5' 6" and shorter. I'm only 5' 2", so it's just a little too big. But it works great for most of the exercises.

The warm-up is really easy - you just sit on the ball and bounce for about a minute. Super easy, and kind of fun. (Remember those bouncy ball things with handles when we were kids - I always loved those - if this had a handle, I'd bounce all over the house on it!)

Anyway - after the warm-up, there are several exercises I do each day. It only takes a few minutes, and it's really helping a lot. I have more energy, and I'm burning more calories, and targeting specific areas for toning.

I highly reccommend an exercise ball - especially for people like me, who have physical limitations and trouble with most types of exercise.

They feature the creator Kenn Kihiu a well known consumer health and fitness expert who has a dazzling smile and is choke-full of encouragement, and contagious enthusiasm.

Available from http://www.danceXfitness.com the dance moves featured in DanceX are refreshingly fun and easy to follow with very different exercise routines you are not likely to find in other dance exercise DVDs. The music is a blend of genres from all around the world like Disco, Latin dance, 50's, Bhangra, Africa, Brazilian Samba, Irish Dance, Classical Dance and has been described as a "musical time warp crossing decades"

Carpal Tunnel Exercises

January 1st 2009 10:47
While not really falling into the category of "weight loss" I have found that I need exercises for carpal tunnel syndrome. I first had this problem during my pregnancies. My hands would go numb - all pins and needles - especially during the night while I slept. I'd have a hard time each morning doing anything that involved my hands - typing, holding a pen or pencil, etc. Always, the problem went away after delivery. Now - at nearly full-term pregnancy weight, I am experiencing the problem again. I'm hopeful that as I lose the weight, the problem will go away, I am also finding that it is much more bothersome than it was in my younger years.

While the condition still occurs mostly at night and first thing in the morning, I have also found that it sometimes creeps up during the day. Especially when I spend extra time driving or typing. Luckily, however, I have found some good exercises that help

Easy Exercise

November 6th 2008 01:20
Due to problems with my legs, I have a hard time finding exercises that I can do. Therefore, I set out (on the web) in search of easy exercises - because I KNOW I have to exercise more.

I found several websites that have easy exercises, but one in particular I found rather useful: Easy Exercise Tips from Sunkist.

Diabetes - I knew it was coming

August 10th 2008 19:49
As I've mentioned in previous posts, type II diabetes runs in my family. I knew it would happen, I have had all the signs - and I've never eaten as I knew I should, to prevent it.

While on vacation last month, I had some problems that I thought were due to poor circulation. They turned out to be caused by a B12 deficiency, but in the process of finding out the cause of that problem, I was diagnosed diabetic. It was caught early - before my glucose levels were out of control. (I guess I do eat better than I thought I did - but now I'm eating better

New Motivation

July 19th 2008 05:40
Though I've been posting here about dieting tips, etc. I really haven't been taking my own advice. After my recent short-but-sweet family vacation, I'm newly motivated.

By standard ideal weights, I'm about 100 pounds overweight. Even so, I've been generally healthy. I recently found out that I'm not quite as healthy as I'd thought

DIABETES and Eating Right

June 14th 2008 04:45
I have a couple of friends who are diabetic. My husband is diabetic. My father is diabetic. My aunt (mother's sister) is diabetic. My mother-in-law and my father-in-law are both diabetic. My kids are doomed! (Come to think of it, I probably am as well.)

Knowing so many diabetics and being so likely to become diabetic myself, I have been doing a lot of reading about how to eat right to PREVENT diabetes. Of all the diabetics I know, my father is the only one who really does what he needs to do. He eats a healthy diet. He checks his blood glucose levels daily. He walks and exercises daily. These are all lifestyle changes he made to keep the disease from causing further problems

Losing Weight the Healthy Way

February 27th 2008 18:12
The thing is, I KNOW the right way to eat and lose weight. The problem is, I DON'T follow my own advice!

I've struggled with weight most of my life - ALL of my adult life. I was "chubby" when I was a pre-teen, dieted (not in a healthy way) when I was a teenager, and have been fat since I got married and had babies. Now, I'm not just fat, I'm OBESE! I currently weigh 210 pounds. This is how much I weighed at full term pregnancy, and it was too much even then! (and since my youngest is now 12, I have no excuse!) I'm only 5'3" tall - so I should weigh about 125-135 pounds (depending on the chart I'm looking at

Pilates For The New Year

January 22nd 2008 00:12
December 18, 2007 -- Pioneered by Joseph Pilates almost a century ago, the Pilates discipline of body conditioning is a uniquely precise exercise designed to lengthen and strengthen muscles and improve posture without stressing the joints.

“Pilates is actually one of the safest forms of exercise, causing less stress on joints and muscles than aerobic activity such as jogging,” said Daren Fletcher, founder of Posture Dynamics. “It is an activity I recommend to my clients as it can help with specific injuries and is a great de-stresser

Vegetarian Meals

As I stated in a previous post, my daughter has decided not to eat meat. I hesitate to call her a vegetarian, because she really doesn't like vegetables much. I'm trying, therefore, to find foods she likes, that don't contain meat

My daughter (she's 12) has decided to become a vegetarian. The problem is, she doesn't like vegetables!

Her reason for this decision is the cruel treatment of animals raised for food. She opposes chickens being kept in small cages, and "tricked" into laying eggs more frequently than they would naturally. She also opposes cows being kept pregnant to produce milk (though she hasn't completely given up milk or cheese yet), and beef cattle kept in small spaces, fed steroids, etc. to produce more meat
