HOW I GOT FAT part 2

October 22nd 2006 07:25
I can’t believe I am at day fifty; I haven’t lasted this long at a diet since I was eighteen, and even then I didn’t make it much further. After high school my, now ex-boyfriend and I became fast food freaks, every night he would come and pick me up and we would go and hang outside McDonalds with our mates. Of course it always involved a thick shake and fries regardless of whether we had already had tea at home.

I slowly got fatter, and one day my boyfriend’s brother said I had the body of a MAN, another crushing blow!!! I joined Weight Watchers and went from 80kgs to 70kgs, back to my high school weight, yay, but as usual I didn’t finish, I stopped going with 3kgs left. Don’t ask me why, I am still questioning it myself, I suppose it was too easy, I thought I could sneak in more and more crap over time and it wouldn’t make any difference. Well three months later I had already gained back half of it.

I slowly gained it all plus more until I was twenty when my boyfriend and I split up, we just weren’t meant to be. This gave me motivation; I bought my first unit and moved out of home. I had very little money so I lived off vegemite crumpets and cordial. As I was a free woman again I decided to spend more time with my girlfriends. Of course this involved heavy drinking and very little eating. Eventually, it turned into “party” drug taking and almost no food. I lost around 15 kilos and around 1/3 of my brain cells. On my twenty-first birthday I weighed 75 kilos. It was then that I met my darling husband, a shy and sexy young man who did not have a weight problem (until he met me!).

We fell in love, purchased our first picket-fenced house and settled in with our German Shepherd within the space of a year. We then became home-bodies (or large-bodies), we started to eat, as if we were storing food for the winter, even though we had no responsibilities, no children to worry about we were even lazier than we are now. We ate a lot of takeaways and had many late night trips to the deli, for ice creams.

Eventually we decided it would be fun to have a baby (boy were we kidding ourselves), I began the pregnancy at 86 kilos. I decided I could eat whatever I wanted to, because if I craved it then of course that meant the baby needed it. Some how I don’t think Logan needed 20 litres of gelati icecream or a never ending supply of Tim-Tams.

I weighed in at 110kgs on the day of Logan’s birth, I was twenty-three. I ate so many hot chips when I was pregnant that my husband thought that Logan might resemble one. After the birth I looked and felt like a swollen Michelin man. Sorry ladies, when you have your child you only lose around four kilos on that day (if you are lucky), my sister thought she was just going to fit into all her old clothes after she had her first baby, of course for everyone except Elle McPherson this is not the case. She then spent her whole time in hospital wearing her nightie. Isn’t it great to be a woman!

Logan was not an easy baby so I had no motivation to exercise. One day after hours of him crying, I finally got him to sleep by driving around in the car, as my reward I went through McDonalds drive thru and had a grease feast, I enjoyed the peace and quite while I gained half a kilo. My very bad eating habits continued, I went on various diets and in two and a half years I had only managed to get down to 97 kilos.
As if the first baby was not sleep depriving enough, we decided to have another baby when Logan was one and a half. The morning sickness was not pleasant, OK it was bloody disgusting and I wanted to die. I lost weight in the first trimester, but don’t worry I made up for it, eating what ever I wanted for the next six months (I obviously didn’t learn anything the first time). I must admit I did feel quite cosy as a plump pregnant woman.

Well anyway I weighed in at 110kgs again at Alexander’s birth, July 2003. But, this time I had a secret weight loss weapon……. breast feeding (I was unable to with Logan). I lost twelve kilos in three months of not dieting, what a lovely feeling, Alex was literally sucking the fat from my body.

Of course nothing lasts forever and after five months, he got teeth, I had to choose “weight loss or nipple loss”. So I accepted I was never going to be skinny and started him on formula. Disaster struck! I gained 3kgs in one week; the easy road was over baby! I then joined Weight Watchers for the fiftieth time!!!!!!!

So that is how I got to where I was fifty days ago. I have lost a total of twenty-two kilos in fourteen months. Not bad, but this time I am going to stick at it until I reach my goal. And if I decide, in the future, to try for a girl, perhaps I will know, that you can not get away with over eating during pregnancy! It is not worth it!
